Native Garden Project - Umina Beach

This garden in Umina Beach was installed 6 years ago. Initially the bank was covered in kikuyu, which was removed by hand without the use of chemicals to prevent killing bees or insects.


The property owners asked for a low-maintenance, water-wise garden that tied into the surrounding native bushland. They predominantly wanted native species, but wanted to include some sculptural plants, so we added Agaves, New Zealand Flax and Helichrysum. The bank provides the house with a lush privacy screen from the street without the need for a fence. The garden has flourished after annual mulching and only requires intermittent rainwater.
